Survey and Assessment Background

The U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Office of Technology Evaluation (OTE) is conducting a comprehensive, multi-tier assessment of the U.S. Civil Space Industrial Base (CSIB) in partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Office of the Administrator, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The resulting data will help identify the structure and interdependencies of organizations that participate in the U.S. CSIB and identify their associated supply chains. This effort will also aid NASA and NOAA's ability to understand and respond to supply chain disruptions, cyber security incidents, shortage of critical minerals and materials, diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS), foreign sourcing and dependency, COVID-19 pandemic impacts, and other challenges facing the civil space industrial base.
