1. If a resident is court-ordered into placement but is NOT an adjudicated delinquent (is rather CHIPS, JIPS, etc.), are they included in this census?
As long as they are placed there for an offense, and not a child welfare issue, yes. All residents will be accounted for in Section I, only those that are placed for an offense and not a child welfare issue would be listed in Section II.
2. Can you clarify which residents are to be reported on in section 2?
Individuals that are under the age of 21 AND assigned a bed in the facility on the reference date AND charged with an offense or court adjudicated for an offense AND are assigned a bed there BECAUSE OF THE OFFENSE.
3. Can you clarify which residents are to be reported on in section 3?
You should report any individuals who were released from your facility between February 1 and February 28 of the survey year, provided they meet the following criteria: they are under the age of 21, have been charged with or court adjudicated for an offense, and were assigned a bed at your facility specifically due to that offense. Please do not include individuals who were temporarily released, such as those sent out for medical care at a hospital.
4. Can you save in the middle of entering data and come back at a later date?
Yes, you can save your data and exit the application and resume where you left off.
5. Do I have to use the reference date of , ?
If you are unable to give us a count of juveniles for this date, please select another day near that date that you would consider your population was "normal" and indicate to us what day you are reporting for in the comments section.
6. Section I Question 10 asks how many juveniles have assigned beds. We do not have "assigned beds". Do I need to complete the form?
This question does not mean a bed is reserved for or "assigned" to a specific person. It refers to the count of any persons that spent the night in the facility on the reference date.
7. I work at a detention facility not a residential facility. Does this census apply to my facility as well?
Yes, a residential facility is any type of facility where the person spends the night.
8. If "responders" would like to look at (analyze) all the data (theirs and other facilities') can they do that?

9. My facility has wards of the state--some of which are on probation. Do I count all clients (even those not on probation)? Do I only count the clients placed here by Department of Corrections or a Probation Department? Many of our clients are wards of the state (this is who has placed them at our facility). Do I count all clients for section I and then only adjudicated for section II?
You include all clients for Section I counts and for Section II you would count only those that are there because they have been charged with or court-adjudicated for an offense.
